Good PM is the best tool to avoid emergency trail repair!
Inspection before ride - the minimum pre-flight is: Air, Brakes, and Chain - this will save you 90% of on-trail maintenance!
If you do need it, be prepared with good quality basic tools that have the right mix for your bike - Caveman repairs aren't cool or manly!
Only do min repair to get out. Don't do any improvements on trail!
Some trail repairs are just to get you out safely, some will be permanent fixes...and you can just repair & continue your ride!
No major repairs - if it's a major repair, do the min. to get out safely
No shock repair on the trail - if the shock failed, it's dead, ride gently to get out safely
If you crash, do a quick inspection (of your body & then the bike) before you resume riding
On trail fixes:
Chain drop
Derailleur cable failure
Brake failure - air bubble
Taking a wheel off and replacing (back and front)
Tire repair (tubed and tubeless using worm kit)
Chain repair
Derailleur hanger swap
Tighten spokes/fix rim
Fixing a broken spoke mid-ride so you can carry on
